Friday August 14, 2020- Lesson 24: YES

“Brothers and sisters, if someone is caught in a sin, you who live by the Spirit should restore that person gently.  But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted.  Carry each other’s burdens and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.’” Galatians 6:1-2

We hope to see you on Friday evening, August 14th when we will share the CR Yes Lesson.  Principle Eight — “Yield myself to God to be used to bring this good news to others, both by my example and by my words” – is all about saying YES.  One of the feelings that prevents a lot of people in recovery from saying yes to serving others is that we don’t feel that we’re good enough.  Some believe that they have nothing to offer anyone else.  Nothing could be further from the truth.  We hope to see you on August 14 to learn more about how important it is for us to say yes to service, not only for others, but also for our own healing and recovery.

Weekly Friday Evening Schedule:

7:00pm – large group meeting

8:00pm – small open share group meetings (gender & issue specific)

Zoom Meeting- None unless arranged ahead of time

No Childcare Avaailable

Friday August 7, 2020- Video Testimony

“No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand so that those who come in can see the light.”

Luke 8:16

Please join us on Friday evening, June 5 when we will be blessed to hear another wonderful CR story.  If we want someone to see what Christ cam do for them, we need to let them see what Christ has done for us.  A great way to do this is by sharing our weaknesses and victories with others who are suffering from similar hurts, hang-ups, and habits.  We hope to see you on the 5th when we will all hear another encouraging and hope-filled testimony of a life that’s been gloriously changed.

Weekly Friday Evening Schedule:

7:00pm – large group meeting

8:00pm – small open share group meetings (gender & issue specific)

No Zoom meeting unless arranged ahead of time- contact 636.779.2174

Friday July 31, 2020- Lesson 23: Give

But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.

James 1:22

This week’s CR lesson is GIVE.  Because we have been given so much, we want, out of gratitude to give our lives back to the one who saved us.  This is all about being doers of the word and not hearers only.

God doesn’t ask us to do everything, but he does ask us to do something.  Obedience begins by knowing God’s word, then asking the Holy Spirit how he wants you to act on that word.  This is how we become more like Jesus.

Weekly Friday Evening Schedule during CoVid:

7:00pm – large group meeting

8:00pm – small open share group meetings (gender & issue specific)

Zoom small groups cancelled until there is an expressed interest. Call 636.779.2174 (leave a message)

No Childcare Available

Friday July 24, 2020- Video Testimony: Jeff S.

Our weekly schedule:

7pm – large group (in the Chapel)

8pm – small open share groups (issue & gender specific)

See Covid-19 guidelines for our meetings in 7/6/2020 post

Friday July 17, 2020- Lesson 22: Gratitude

Psalm 28:7

The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and I am helped. My heart leaps for joy and I will give thanks to him in song.

It is easy to be grateful when life works out the way we have planned, when things go our way, when we are loved and have others to love.  But these past few months have put pressure one everyone in many new ways.  Our plans haven’t worked out, things haven’t always gone our way, we see division almost everywhere we look.  It can be overwhelming and we can easily forget that God is still in control.

God has not forgotten that we are his children and when we truly believe that EVERYTHING works together for our good,  we can be grateful no matter what our circumstances might be.

This Friday we will review the Gratitude lesson and consider how well we are expressing our gratitude to God and those he has put on our lives to help us grow to be more like Jesus.

Additional Info about 7/10/2020 Meeting

In-person Meeting: if you don’t remember the church’s guidelines for the meeting see below
People can enter the building starting at 6:50p. The Large Group meeting starts at 7:00p. It is a video testimony night. People need to leave the building after their small group (9:10p at the latest).

Zoom meeting: We’ll use the same link/meeting ID/password as we have been. We are going to have a Mini Large Group via Zoom starting at 7:15 or 7:20p (depends how early people enter the meeting).

We’ll play a couple of worship songs and show the same non copyrighted testimony as at the in-person meeting.

There are a couple of things people need to take into account in regards to the audio of the presentation. Basically, audio settings need to be adjusted through the Zoom app, not your device’s normal audio controls. We’ll give some short instructions at the beginning.

If you think that is too hard then you can watch the testimony on your own before you join at 8:00p for Small Group. This is the link to the testimony:

In-Person Meetings Resuming 7/10/2020

God willing, we are planning to resume in-person meetings this Friday 7/10/2020.

We will abide by all the guidelines set by First Free Church for group meetings in the church building. The following are the specific guidelines agreed on with church leadership for CR:

  • 1)  No congregating in the building before or after the meeting. People can and are encouraged to visit outside
  • 2) No dinner or Solid Rock- people will need to bring their own coffee and water (water fountains are closed)
  • 3) No more than 25% capacity in any of the rooms we use. This means no more than 47 people in the Chapel for Large Group. Originally there was going to be an RSVP procedure but given we haven’t gone over 47 in a while and we don’t use the church’s “Planning-Center app” (because of anonymity) we just need to document our attendance for the church. I’ll make a form that does not use last names.
  • 4) We will use the same break out rooms. We just need to switch the Codependent women to room 360 and Newcomers to 314.
  • 5) Chairs in the Chapel have been rearranged for social distancing. Family groups can sit together.
  • 6) We are asking ALL CR participants to wear a mask.
  • 7) We’ll use music videos without participant singing. Singing has been shown to be a major way of spreading the virus.

When Adam Bowers (lead pastor at First Free) addressed this issue he mentioned some may feel masks are unnecessary, burdensome, or even an infringement of their rights, but he indicated we need to understand some of our brothers and sisters feel otherwise.

Our leadership group met and decided that due to the core value of keeping our meetings SAFE for everyone, we will “require” masks. As always, when we speak of keeping our meetings safe we are not just speaking of physical safety but also emotional safety.

Please consider Romans 12:18 “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone”.

If you have problems with this policy please don’t show up at the meeting with the intention of debating the issue with us, instead please phone Tim or Judy (636-779-2174) by at least Thursday 7/9/2020. If we don’t answer, leave a message and we will call you as soon as we can. We have a spam filter on our phone that sometimes filters out legitimate calls. The filter will allow you to leave a message.

There may be people uncomfortable with these procedures and may decide not to come for one reason or another. As a result we will continue to have Zoom Small Group Meetings for all who want them. We will use the same link/meeting-id. The only difference is that the Small Group Meetings will start at 8p (NOT at 7p)

These guidelines are for Phase II for resuming in-person meetings. We hope and pray we will quickly reach Phase IV, which means the virus is contained and there will be no restrictions of any kind.

We may not know what our Lord is doing through these difficult and divisive times but we do know He is a gracious God who works for the good of all who love Him. He is worthy of all praise for his steadfast love. And we are called to be steadfast in our love for our brothers and sisters in Christ.

In-Person Meetings Delayed Until 7/10/2020

I’m sorry to report that CR will have to wait until 7/10 to resume in-person meetings.

Because of the holiday weekend the church building is closed this Friday 7/3. Usually on nights the building is closed we are allowed to move our meeting to the Bigg House. But in this case because of capacity limits, resulting from social distancing requirements, we will not be able to use the Bigg House.

Thankfully we still have Zoom and therefore can still gather in our Small Open Share Groups to work our recoveries.

This is disappointing for us but we are sure God’s sovereign will is for our good.

Romans 8:28 NLT
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.

PS. We encourage everyone to call someone in their small group, not only to connect with someone this week, but also to make sure everyone is aware of this last minute change

Coronavirus Update

We are canceling our Friday meetings until further notice. In other words, we are self-quarantining our ministry.

“We are not doing this out of fear, but out of love” (Rick Warren)

Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust Him
Psalm 91:1-2 NLT
